THE DAY CENTRE
Special Education is provided to 45 students who attend the Centre and some are provided with preparatory support to include them into the main stream schools. CHIC started functioning in 2000 at Lions Club of Polibetta’s, “Anugraha”. CHIC’s Day Centre was inaugurated in 2001 with 6 children in its own premises. Now there are 68 students. Transport facilities are provided by the centre to reach out to these children from five different areas in Kodagu and this is a major cost factor for CHIC. In totality Cheshire Homes India Coorg, focuses on making each student under its care a self -reliant, happy individual.
Medical rehabilitation is provided through regular visits, camps, with aids and appliances. At the Centre, Physiotherapy and Mobility training are provided daily. Their nutrition, health and hygiene is closely monitored. Milk, eggs, and a wholesome snack, are provided after the morning assembly and yoga. Cleanliness is inculcated in these students and their organizational skills are slowly developed through regular practice. To add to the infrastructure, CCTV cameras, fire extinguishers and biometric systems have been installed as emphasis is given to the safety and security of the children.
