CBR Sanitary Napkin Manufacturing

With the rural environment changing fast in India, the literacy level of women has increased and they have been contributing equally to the development of our nation. The family health and Personal hygiene is gaining importance and the change in lifestyle of our people is visible. Keeping this in mind CHIC started a Vocational training unit to manufacture Sanitary Napkins, by the People with Disability and their family members. This was to reach out to the local women and create an awareness about menstrual hygiene.

  • 3 days Training on monitoring systems was held for 4 staff in the Sanitary Towel unit by S.P. Jain Institute of Management-Mumbai, students.
  • 8 PWDs and caregivers attended the training programmes at Gandhi gram .
  • 2 Training programmes were held at the centre by Gandhi Gram on how to manufacture sanitary napkins. This was to create opportunities for income generation. 3 PWDs and 10 caregivers were trained.
  • Manufactured 3800 packets and 10 F Employers were sensitized.


Prosthetic & Orthotic Unit

The Orthotic Unit was started in 2010 with the help of the Association of People with Disability (APD), Bangalore, and was the only one in Kodagu. This unit was started to help improve the mobility of the people, with Assistive devices and for repairs and maintenance.
107 People with disability were assessed and 60 Assistive devices were manufactured.

  • Repeated refresher training programmes in artificial limb manufacture, costing, planning were held for the technicians by APD.
  • Awareness camps were held on a regular basis.
  • 14 Health Camps were held for assessment for Identity cards, assistive devices. 
  • 53 Children with disabilities and 140 Persons with Disabilities have benefited.
  • Samuel (APD) made 7 visits for assessment camps and to manufacture limbs.
  • The Orthotic unit was inaugurated on June 10th by Dr. Ravi Appaji –Surgeon and Rotary District Governor, District Disabled Welfare Officer, Executive Director–Mr. Basvaraj, and Trustee- Mr. Chinnappa, APD.
  • The technicians were taught the monitoring systems of the Orthotic Unit by MBA student from S.P. Jain Institute of Management-Mumbai
  • The ADIP (Central Government scheme) inspection of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Unit was done by Mr. Mariappan of    Department of Welfare of Disabled and Senior citizens –Bangalore
