Aliya
Danush was born on 29th Jan 2001 in the Government Hospital Gonikoppal. He is the eldest child to his parents Somshekar and Vedavathy. When he was 9 months old the doctors confirmed he had visual impairment.
The Community Based Rehabilitation worker identified him and he was assessed by the Special Educator, Shivaraj who counselled his parents about their son’s condition. He was admitted to Cheshire Homes India Coorg, Pollibetta in June 2007 where an educational plan was developed. Training was provided to both parents on the activities of Daily living skills, social skills and mobility orientation.
After 5 months , Danush was able to manage his Activity of Daily Living Skills independently, such as brushing, toileting, dressing and his social behaviour had changed a lot. He was taught the “Goli Press”, Braille Alphabets, Kannada Braille, English Braille, Orientation and Mobility, Abacus, Tailor Frame by Headmaster Shivaraj.
In 2018-19 he was admitted to 9th standard in Government Blind School, Mysore. There he continued his studies and passed the 10th Standard. In 2019-2020 he passed his S.S.L.C exams with 62%.
Premala was born on 30th September 1987. She was the third child of Mr. Nanjappa and Mrs. Madevi. Premala had delayed developments in walking and talking. She had a bleeding problem soon after her birth. She was treated by Dr. Sudhakar Shetty, Pollibetta and then it was cured. When she was 5 years her family identified her as a special child.
She studied in the Government School, Thithimathi, till 6th Standard and then she stayed at home till she was 27 years. Later on the advice of our student, Sowmya’s mother Savithri, she was admitted to CHIC on 12th November 2014.
After she joined school she is able to read and write her name and address. She is able write her numbers 1-10 and is able to copy write the others. She is being trained at the Vocational Centre and she used to help in the garden. She joins the group to make Phenyl and Liquid soap and supports for newspaper bag making. Under the Skill development project, she was trained in Hand Made Paper (HMP) making and Looms. In the HMP unit, she tears the paper and helps in manufacturing handmade paper.
She excels in sports competitions like 100 m, 200 m, 400 metres sprints & has won many prizes. She has been to many places like Mysore, Madikeri and Mangalore to participate in sports events & has received prizes. In fact she has been declared the “fastest girl at the Mysore meet”.
Aliya Qureshi was born in a hospital at Hunsur, Mysore District on the 11th December 2004. All her developmental milestones were slow. At 5 years she came down with high temperature and was treated in Mission Hospital, Mysore. It was there that the doctors identified her condition as cerebral palsy.
On the advice of the relatives, Aliya was admitted to CHIC on the 6th June 2016. Aliya was being spoon-fed when she joined school. Gradually she was taught and learnt to eat with the help of a spoon. Now with assistance she is able to eat and clean up by herself. She has started to interact with the staff and students at school. Aliya has been getting physiotherapy every day from Saroja the therapist. Stretching exercises, fine and gross motor exercises, eye-hand coordination, standing balance, gait therapy are the exercises she has been given.
She has been getting free education and training at school. Transportation, uniforms, medical facilities, dental treatment, school trips are all taken care of by the school. Our psychiatrist Mrs Abha Prasad, treats her too. She was taken to Lopamudra Medical Centre, Gonicoppal for an eye check-up when she was diagnosed with eye problems. Now the school has provided her with glasses too. She was provided with a wheel chair for her personal use at home, Hip Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis and other Assistive devices to assist her.
Her Father hopes to see Aliya become independent to do her work.
